150 supported The Via Catalana organised by the Catalan Cultural Centre of Victoria on Sunday 1 September 2013. The aim was to put their hands together and let the world know the Catalan people have the right to choose their future as a nation. The event was held at the Princes Bridge in St Kilda Road, Melbourne.

This human chain is one of the 90 other chains that have been organised around the world outside Catalunya and replicate the main Via Catalana of 400km that will happen in Catalunya next 11 September 2013.

The Catalan Cultural Centre of Victoria and the Catalan National Assembly of Australia have joined to organise this event in the city centre. Minutes before 12pm on Sunday 1 September, Federation Square was packed with Catalan flags, yellow shirts and labels with the motto “Catalonia: next state of Europe”. The extraordinary weather and good location helped us become the centre of attention which allowed us to give away dozens of flyers explaining the Catalan situation and the sovereign process among the curious that approached us for more information.

Australians and Catalans of all ages came along: the youngest was Delia born 6 days earlier and the eldest one was Ms Rosa Manning who is 92 years old. This Melbournian human chain has been recorded and will be part of the promotional video that the Catalan National Assembly will present at a press conference on Wednesday 4 September 2013. This event was also organised in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth with very positive and good responses from the Catalan people living there.
