Once again the Catalan people living in Melbourne gathered together to celebrate our traditional “Castanyada”, a popular Catalan festival on All Saints’ Day.  The attendees received a special visit from our “Castanyera” who did not bring chesnuts but panellets and sat with us to share a glass of sweet wine.

The main part of the event was the Catalan Working Workshop “Learn how to cook Panellets” by the chef Toni Jiménez who brought our cooking skills to a whole new level. Australians and Catalans made these traditional sweets with differents shapes and ingredients such as chocolate, coffee, mince or pine nuts.

If you could not attend you can read this recipe and make panellets at your home. You can invite your friends and tell them about panellet history, one less scary than other Halloween tales…
